Aria is the daughter of Byron Montgomery and Ella Montgomery and the older sister of Mike Montgomery. Aria is a main character in the series who was best friends with Alison, Spencer, Hanna, and Emily. Aria discovers her father cheating on her mother with his student, Meredith Gates, who later turns out to be antagonistic that Aria suspected. After Ali's disappearance, Aria and her family go on a sabbatical to Iceland. When they return, Aria meets Ezra Fitz in a restaurant and continues to make out. Aria then finds out that Ezra is her teacher. Meredith then returns, revealing that she wants Byron for herself. Aria is distraught and turns to Ezra for comfort .A" taunting her about the secret romance. Aria and Ezra struggle with the forbidden nature of their relationship as Aria is tormented by keeping the secret of her father's past affair from her mother. Just as Aria decides to tell the truth, she finds that "A" has beaten her to it in a tell-all letter to Ella.
